The GE D20 EME210BASE-T (also known as D20 EME 10BASE-T or D20-EME210BASE-T) is a Media Interface Card / Ethernet Network Card Module designed for the GE D20 and D200 substation automation platforms (including D20MX chassis). As a critical communication component in legacy RTU and substation control systems, the GE D20 EME210BASE-T provides reliable 10BASE-T (10 Mbps Ethernet over twisted-pair) connectivity, enabling fast data exchange between the D20 controller, I/O modules, IEDs, and SCADA master stations. The GE D20 EME210BASE-T installs in the left-most slot of the D20MX/D200 chassis and connects via a dedicated interface cable (P/N 977-0298) to the D20EME Ethernet/Memory board. It features dual RJ45 ports (LAN A and LAN B) with configurable jumper settings for redundant or segmented network operation, plus diagnostic support for link tests and jabber detection. The rugged industrial design of the GE D20 EME210BASE-T withstands harsh substation environments with high electrical noise, vibration, and temperature extremes. Although a legacy module, the GE D20 EME210BASE-T remains widely supported for maintaining or upgrading older D20-based RTU systems in power transmission, distribution, and smart grid applications. The GE D20 EME210BASE-T ensures deterministic, low-latency Ethernet communication essential for real-time monitoring, control, and fault management in critical utility infrastructure.

Operation Steps:

Power down the D20/D200 chassis and install the GE D20 EME210BASE-T into the left-most slot, ensuring proper alignment with the backplane.

Connect the interface cable (P/N 977-0298) from J1 on the GE D20 EME210BASE-T to the D20EME Ethernet/Memory board.

Attach standard Cat5 or better twisted-pair Ethernet cables to the RJ45 ports (J2 for LAN A, J3 for LAN B).

Set jumpers JP1 and JP2 according to the desired LAN configuration (default Option 1A recommended for most applications).

Restore power to the chassis and verify link/activity LEDs or system diagnostics indicate healthy Ethernet communication.

Configure the D20 controller (via front panel or configuration software) for Ethernet protocol settings (IP address, DNP3, Modbus, etc.).

Test network connectivity to SCADA/HMI and perform loop checks for data acquisition and control commands.

Installation Precautions:

Completely de-energize the D20/D200 chassis and associated power supplies before inserting or removing the GE D20 EME210BASE-T to prevent damage or electrical hazards.

Use proper ESD protection when handling the module to safeguard sensitive Ethernet circuitry.

Verify correct cable orientation and secure connections for the interface cable (P/N 977-0298) and RJ45 Ethernet cables.

Do not exceed recommended cable lengths (100 m max for 10BASE-T) and route Ethernet cables away from high-voltage power lines to minimize interference.

Confirm jumper settings (JP1/JP2) match the network architecture before powering on; incorrect settings may cause communication failures.

Ensure the chassis has adequate ventilation and operates within substation environmental limits.

After installation, run D20 self-diagnostics and test both LAN A and LAN B links before placing the RTU online.

Daily Maintenance Content Details:

Monitor front-panel or system LEDs on the GE D20 EME210BASE-T daily for link status, activity, and any fault indications on LAN A/B ports.

Check D20 controller diagnostics and SCADA logs for Ethernet communication errors, packet loss, or link-down alarms.

Inspect RJ45 connectors and cables weekly for looseness, corrosion, or damage in the substation environment.

Review event logs for any jabber, SQE, or link-test related issues reported by the module.

Verify network redundancy (if configured) by monitoring both LAN channels during normal operation.

Clean dust from the module and chassis vents (power off) using low-pressure compressed air every 1–3 months depending on site conditions.

During scheduled outages, test full Ethernet functionality, re-verify jumper settings, and perform cable integrity checks to ensure continued reliable substation communication.
