The Eaton MPB1-TP (also archived under part number COM-MPB1-TP / 139850) is a dedicated plug-in communication expansion card designed exclusively for standard option slots found on Eaton XV400, XV600, and related Micro Innovation HMI panels.
Safety Note: To protect the sensitive surface-mount CMOS components from static or transient voltage damage, the MPB1-TP module must only be inserted or extracted from the destination HMI chassis while the system power supply is completely switched off.

Broad Third-Party Driver Library: Supports extensive communication drivers embedded via Galileo software, removing the need for intermediary protocol converters.
Hardware-Level Sub-Processor: Incorporates independent onboard logic handling to guarantee predictable, cyclical polling cycles without affecting screen refresh rates.
Multi-Standard Physical Transceivers: Configurable via software/firmware to operate across RS232, RS485, and 4-wire RS422 industrial serial standard loops.
Retentive Flash Memory: Stores firmware variables and backup communication stacks locally within integrated non-volatile memory sectors.
The MPB1-TP handles direct connection to a vast array of legacy and modern industrial control networks via the standard 9-pin D-Sub interface port:
Eaton / Moeller Network: Full integration with Suconet field lines.
Siemens Integration: Standard Siemens MPI point-to-point/multipoint serial loops (Note: For extended Simatic S7-MPI network configurations, specify the companion MPB2-TP card variant).
Modbus Infrastructure: Full Modbus RTU Master protocol implementation (supports Big Endian data translation options).
Japanese PLC Series: Native interface drivers for Matsushita FP Series and Mitsubishi A-Series / F-Series networks.
Omron Systems: Dedicated communication handling for Omron C, H, and K-Series host link protocols.
Telemecanique Systems: Built-in translation arrays for Unitelway communication networks.
Water Treatment Control Scenarios: Allows local XV400 screens to read from legacy remote I/O lines spread across large pump rooms.
Retrofit Plastic Injection Machinery: Connects modern operator interfaces to aging third-party PLC architectures without altering original logic programs.
Automated Material Warehousing: Manages high-speed serial links to dedicated barcode scanning sub-assemblies.
Food Processing Systems: Mounts within sealed stainless steel enclosures to process clean fieldbus loops.
Q: What is the core structural difference between the MPB1-TP and the MPB2-TP cards?
A: Physically and mechanically, both cards share the same footprint, power draws, and base serial driver selections. However, the MPB2-TP contains specialized hardware-level physical components specifically optimized to join Siemens Simatic S7 MPI networks, whereas the MPB1-TP focuses on open, multi-brand serial configurations.
Q: Can the serial interface lines be actively chained or split to drive multiple physical networks simultaneously?
A: No. The card features a single logical sub-processor channel. Attempting to link multiple physical protocols simultaneously to the interface pins will create data collisions and completely disable communication loops.
Q: How does a field programmer update or change the standard driver operating on the MPB1-TP?
A: The card's driver files (MPB.BIN) are compiled directly within the Galileo development environment. When downloading a revised HMI project to the target panel, the system automatically flashes the matching driver binary into the card’s retentive flash memory over the internal system railbus.
