Swiss power and automation technology group ABB announced on August 11th that it has built the largest solar power plant in Northern Europe at its Finnish low-voltage AC transmission plant. The total investment for the entire solar power plant project is approximately 500000 euros, with some funding coming from the Finnish government's renewable energy investment fund.
ABB Finland Low Voltage AC Drive Plant is located in Helsinki. This solar power station is located on the roof of the factory, with a power of 181 kilowatts. The generated solar power is mainly used to charge the forklift battery of the factory and reduce the peak load of electricity consumption.
Antti Suontausta, Senior Vice President of ABB's Low Voltage AC Drive Business, said, "This solar power generation system fully embodies the benefits of distributed power generation near electricity consumption areas. Solar power generation can bring high added value to users, especially for commercial and industrial buildings, and can reduce the peak electricity load of buildings
Finland's sunshine is not very abundant, but this solar power plant can fully utilize the advantage of longer summer sunshine in the region. It is expected to generate 160000 kWh of electricity per year, which is equivalent to the annual electricity consumption of 30 households in the area that do not use electric heating equipment. These solar power sources will be directly integrated into the factory's power grid to charge the forklift trucks inside the factory, and the surplus electricity can also be used for other equipment.
The solar power station utilizes ABB's latest string inverters and central inverters, designed and produced by ABB Drive Plant in Helsinki, marking their first application in Finland. ABB solar inverters are mainly used to convert the direct current produced by solar panels into high-quality alternating current and integrate it into the power grid.
