ABB, the world's leading power and automation technology group, announced that it will provide a 363 kV high-voltage isolated circuit breaker with an all fiber current transformer for the Shaanxi Fuping Intelligent Substation. This circuit breaker combines three substation functions: isolation, circuit breaking, and current measurement, reducing the substation's footprint by up to 70%. At the same time, it is also the world's first isolated circuit breaker equipped with fiber optic current transformers at this high voltage level.
All fiber current transformers will replace traditional current transformers used for measurement and protection in integrated intelligent switches, and create conditions for grid automation. In the northwest region of China, the voltage level of 363 kV is the most common. This application is also the first commercial application of the isolated circuit breaker technology at this voltage level.
As part of the new generation intelligent substation project planned by State Grid Corporation of China in 2015, Shaanxi Fuping Intelligent Substation will provide electricity for the rapidly developing industrial belt around Fuping County, Shaanxi Province. The project aims to utilize the most advanced technology to enable remote control, protection, automation, monitoring, and analysis of substations, while reducing operating costs, footprint, and environmental impact. At the same time, the new generation of smart substations can make the national power grid more efficient, flexible, and reliable, laying the foundation for China's increasing integration of renewable energy into the grid. According to data from the National Energy Administration of China, the cumulative installed capacity of renewable energy generation in China exceeded 400 million kilowatts in 2014, accounting for over 30% of the total installed capacity of electricity, continuing to maintain its position as the world's largest country in terms of renewable energy utilization scale.
ABB has been providing the most advanced technology for China's power infrastructure, supporting a stronger, smarter, and greener power grid through our equipment, "said Yuker, President of ABB's Power Products Business. This once again demonstrates that leading technology will be the key to ABB maintaining its market leadership position under the 'new stage' strategy. ”
As a pioneer in isolated circuit breaker technology, ABB has installed approximately 1800 isolated circuit breakers worldwide. Since 2010, ABB has been operating a test project in Sweden for 420 kV high-voltage isolated circuit breakers equipped with all fiber current transformers, accumulating a wealth of experience in this field. This innovative technology not only integrates three types of substation functions, but also provides digital output of substation and grid automation related data, and is fully integrated into the smart grid based on the latest IEC digital communication standard (IEC 61850-9-2LE).
This technology can replace traditional switchgear and reduce the footprint of air isolation switches in substations by 70%. Not only that, it can also help high-voltage substations reduce several tons of equipment, improve substation safety, reduce installation time, save design, operation, and maintenance costs, and reduce environmental impact.
By the end of 2015, State Grid Corporation of China plans to build a new round of 50 next-generation smart substations and vigorously promote the construction of smart grids. ABB will provide innovative high-voltage isolation circuit breakers equipped with full fiber current transformers, intelligent medium voltage switchgear, and transformer intelligent electronic components (such as innovative self drying respirators) for 13 of the smart substations, helping to create a more efficient and reliable smart grid and achieve the "interconnection of goods, services, and people".
ABB ranks among the Fortune Global 500 and is a leading enterprise in the fields of power and automation technology. ABB is committed to helping customers in the fields of power, industry, transportation, and infrastructure improve their performance while reducing their impact on the environment. ABB Group has operations in nearly 100 countries worldwide and employs 140000 people. ABB has comprehensive business activities in China, including research and development, manufacturing, sales, and engineering services. It has 19000 employees, 39 local enterprises, and a sales and service network covering 126 cities across the country.
